BeforeMaharaja Sukarana died, he wanted his grandson Pangeran Samudra to be the king.  But, the governance of the kingdom was taken by Pangeran Mangkubumi (his uncle) and then given to Pangeran Tumenggung.

Pangeran Samudra was exiled to live on the bank of the River Barito.  There were many villages along the riverbanks. One of them was Bandar Masih. When he finally arrived in Bandar, the governor crowned him the king. Under his governance, Bandar Masih became a developed harbor causing Tumenggungto feel threatened. War broke out. To settle peace, it was decided to perform a ship duel. However, when the two came face to face they realized that they loved each other.
