The Hedonism Phenomenon towards the Youth
World
has been lived by its people for over a billion years and just like that, the
era has been not only just passed, but also developing. For all those years
that have passed, both the world and the people have been going nowhere but
becoming more developed in a lot of things, from the way of thinking to the
lifestyle too. That is, the world and its people would be in a stage of a
modern life in every era that has passed. Every era that has been passed, they
would be in a higher level of a modern life than before. Meanwhile, while talking
about the people that live the world then there would be the separation line
that lies between those people from the old generation and those people from
the young generation. In today’s society, we are in need of both generations to
contribute in some ways. The younger generation brings questions, challenges,
and sparks change for the future. Whereas the old generation sets limits and
breaks, provides wisdom and experience. That is to say, young generation has a big role for the
future. Because the well being of a nation begins
with the development of its younger generation. Due to the fact that young
generation builds the future of a nation specifically and of the future face of
the world generally, there will always be a tons of stuff that can be taken
into concerns for a discussion. All this stuff come from all the possible
issues from the young generation itself, from the general and famous ones to the ones that do
not get so much attention.
Then that would go without saying that the writer would narrow down the
discussion to be on focus about
the young generation and the infamous hedonism. This is due to the fact that
this is what has been tossing around in general public, in fact it is sort of
like a phenomenon for the young generation that is needed to be taken seriously
for it won’t give justice for the future face of the world. That is, there is
no good that comes out of the young generation and hedonism, specifically when
it is in the perspective of the psychological side and economical side.
Before going deeper into the topic
of young generation and hedonism, it is wise to note that from Cambridge dictionary, young refers to
something living, or in this very case is human being, at an early stage of
development or existence ; not old. While generation refers to all the people
of about the same age within a society or within a particular family, or the
usual period of time from a person’s birth to the birth of his or her children.
And then there is hedonism which refers to living and behaving in ways that
mean one gets as much pleasure out of life as possible, according to the belief
that the most important thing in life is to enjoy him/herself. Having said that, young
generation and hedonism phenomenon are about the young people who seek to live a life with as much pleasure as possible.
Ironically, like what has been revealed here that this has already become a
phenomenon
in the life of the young generation even though not all of it included but
still this has become a lifestyle to this generation of the future. Speaking
about hedonism, the facts in the field even revealed that nowadays it is not
just the issue for the young generation because it also happens in the older
generation who are by all mean expected to have known better (Clive Martin,
2014). That is, the older generation cannot take hedonism as they should have
been able to so what makes a guarantee that the young generation would be able
to take the issue? In fact, it is claimed that the majority of the young
generation does love to seek pleasure instead of pressure knowing for the fact
that young people are driven by an unexplainable kind of nerves and enthusiasm that
can easily trigger hedonism.
It
is already obvious that hedonism brings nothing besides the feeling to get more and more pleasure, if
there were many obstacles or as such, they would not be
able to take it. This goes without saying that this is what the psychological
aspect deals with the effect of hedonism. When one has this character of
hedonism, they will do things not for the sake of how good and beneficial the
possibility it can turn out to be, rather it will be just about the pleasure
out of it. On the other hand, there is an ambiguity for the words that these
hedonism people will do things only for the sake of the pleasure. Firstly, that
would mean that one would just do things where they are just the comfort zone
of them which mean they would not try anything new, too afraid to know any
possibility that will come out of it. Because they seek for pleasure, the
possible pain of the result of trying something new would not be bearable to
them. Secondly, that would mean that a hedonist can do just about everything
they want as long as there is the pleasure that comes along by doing it. So,
that includes doing new things, while this sounds very positive and goes
against the first idea of a hedonist, this is actually just the same which is
just about the hedonism. Because after doing what they want to do, a hedonist
would still be seeking for their pleasure. Either it is a success or a failure,
they will do things, let’s just say, a celebration for it for the pleasure they
feel the need to have. Unfortunately, because it is hedonism, thing as such
would not be a motivation to do better next time, instead it will be just
another celebration, they will get drawn into the ocean of having fun that
their pleasure is the highest good. Either way, there is no good that comes out
with the first or the second idea of a hedonist, because after all, all they
seek for is pleasure. And by that, the psychological of a hedonist would not be
balanced because they are just ready for the good not for both ; the good and
the bad, for good means pleasure.
Dealing
with hedonism, the young generation has actually been tied by hedonism itself. By
that, hedonism is a lifestyle that has grown into the life of the young
generation. This should be taken seriously because the young generation who
brings hedonism as their character would have this belief that the most
important thing in life is to enjoy his/herself. One example of a hedonistic
thing is Color Run. Color Run has an advantage of bringing nothing but fun or pleasure
to the one who does it. For instance, one takes selfies of themselves then
upload them to their social media like facebook, twitter, instagram, shots, etc
just to get responses from other people that they look stunning whatsoever that
will bring them happiness because of the responses. When they do not get this
response they hope to get, they won’t be happy about it at all ; talking about
the psychological effect, they will do anything in their power to reach what
they hope to get. Another example is that one would upload pictures of their
belongings that have a tag on them saying that they cost an arm and a leg just
to show the world that they have this stuff which not everyone has it. If they
keep on doing this and do not try to put a stop on the action, the possibility
of being broke is right there. Besides, at the end, this will automatically
affect their economy.
It is clear then that Hedonism will
not just affect the psychological aspect of the young generation who carries it
but also the economy aspect. At the end of the day though, hedonism will always
affect these two aspects among many other aspects. Because a hedonist would, of
course, become a problem of someone’s psychological for he/she only longs for
nothing but pleasure and a hedonist would always affect someone’s economy for
most pleasure comes from money. Meanwhile, the future face of the world needs
the young generation who is not only skilled but also who has a strong
psychology so that it can maintain anything including, their own economy. To
sum it all up, there is absolutely not a thing from being a hedonist worth the
future face of the world and there is nothing that can be done but to put a
stop to it.
